We’re a family of 5 from New Zealand who spent many years dreaming of how to make long-term travel with kids a reality, and are now about to do it. We’re choosing experiences over things, and getting out in the world to show our boys all that it has to teach us.
We’re going to be living, working, and learning around the world. The very rough plan at this stage is a few months in SE Asia, then up to Europe for maybe about a year, then over to the Americas, before returning home (well…maybe says Gloria, most likely says Tony).
Gloria’s a born traveler who isn’t quite sure how she’s remained sane (debatable!) with feet planted in one country since having children. Tony’s enjoyed his time out in the world too and is open-minded enough to consider all the wacky life plans Gloria puts forward, and even agrees to some of them – like this one.
Our biggest concerns are how we will cope being with our kids 24/7 for so long, and we’ve had the occasional nightmare about losing a child overseas.
Our boys will be 10, 8 and 3 when we leave and they’re all pretty excited about the trip in general and also a few specifics like eating pizza in Italy, going to all the amazing waterparks they’ve researched, and catching up with their cousins in London.
Their main concern is missing family and friends, which is a big reason why they’ll also be posting stories and updates on this blog, and using it to keep in touch with everyone.
Follow our journey as we wander in wonder!
